National Conference for International Students 6-8 October 2008

International Student leaders from institutions nationwide will be meeting at the 23rd National Liaison Committee Annual Conference (NLCAC) in Brisbane.

The National Liaison Committee for International Students (NLC) is the national peak representative body for International Students, and will be holding its annual conference at the
Brisbane
Convention & Exhibition Centre between 6 – 8 October 2008.

Coinciding with the Australian International Education Conference (AIEC), the conference will allow delegates to discuss current issues, future direction, and together formulate constructive strategies aimed at improving the quality of Australian International Education.

Recent ABS figures confirm education is Australia's number one services export, growing by a massive 23.4% from the previous year to $13.7 billion in 2007-08. The NLC actively lobby's top policy-makers to ensure attention is given to International Student welfare.

Mr Eric Pang, president of the NLC, said, “
Brisbane was chosen for this year’s conference because we want to energise International Student representation in Queensland educational institutions."

"With the AIEC being held in the same week and at the same venue, the conference will provide excellent opportunities for International Student leaders to meet with top International Education industry decision-makers, network and exchange of ideas with one another," Mr Pang said.

The theme for the conference is “Empowering Students: Representation Autonomy, Education Quality & Welfare Assurance”.

The conference objectives are to provide a platform for international
student leadership and development, the creation of vibrant campus life, promoting the principles of multiculturalism, and encouraging integration on campus through active engagement with university decision-makers and student leaders.
