ANOTHER college catering to overseas students in search of permanent residency has gone into administration.

The Melbourne-based National Academy of Further Education and Training reportedly closed its doors today.

A series of changes to skilled migration policy has applied pressure to the business model in which colleges and universities sold qualifications of low skill or dubious quality to students hoping to parlay them into PR visas.

The NAFET website gives prominence to hairdressing courses which, according to Monash University's Bob Birrell, "virtually guaranteed'' a PR visa between 2005 and 2008.

The peak body, the Australian Council for Private Education and Training, was advised today that the administrators, Worrells, had been called in at NAFET.

"We have contacted the administrators to seek student information so that we may begin the process of transferring students to a comparable course at a nearby institution as soon as possible,'' said ACPET chief executive Andrew Smith.
